jae m author (they/them) is a classically trained bassoonist with roots in improvisation, jazz, & musical theatre doubling. They are an embodied advocate for the inclusion of disabled & TGNC people in artistic education and professions.
As principal bassoonist, jae performs with Protestra, Orchestra Amadeus, and is featured on recordings with Ensemble 212 and archival MSM livestreams. In 2023, they were the principal ringer for the Rhode Island College Symphony Orchestra. At Carnegie Hall’s Weill Institute, they were selected for the Royal Concertgebouw’s masterclass series & mock auditions. Recent musical theatre performances include “Into the Woods” (Bassoon), “The Music Man” (Reed 5: baritone sax, clarinet, bassoon), & “Peter Pan” (Reed 6: bass clarinet, clarinet, bassoon).
In commitment to youth education and mentorship, jae has ongoing engagements with the New York International Youth Philharmonic and The Little Orchestra Society— both performing and providing instrument demonstration. In 2024, their premiere graphic score was performed during family hours at the Swiss Institute / Contemporary Art New York.
Their creative work focuses on integrating a sense of belonging and wellness among all members within an artistic endeavor, including the audience. jae is passionate about the power of improvisation and is excited to collaborate and further discover how it can be used as an exploration of healing.
